Improvised an avocado (!) sauce for the pasta. It was very good.
I don’t know how many cookbooks I’ve looked at that promise a path toward “recipe-less” cooking, and which turn out to be nothing but books of recipes. To break free of recipes you really have to just get some basic cooking skills under your belt and try stuff.
