We re-watched Blade Runner last night. (Only watch the “Final Cut” edition!). Great as always, but I was struck by Deckard’s having to use a pay phone to contact anyone. I decided that in this version of The Future, mobile phones turned out to be a passing fad, and society has gone back to real phones. Yes, I know it’s set in 2019, but it’s better just to think of it as 20 years from now, whenever now is.
