I’m reading a book that often describes houses in the traditional Japanese way: 6-mat, 8-mat, etc. I made the mistake of learning that there are “auspicious” & “inauspicious” ways of arranging tatami mats, so now whenever, say, a 4-mat room is mentioned, I have to get out pencil & paper to see if I can make an auspicious arrangement.
