This article on the mobile industry’s increased attention to reusing/recycling some of the five billion (!!) abandoned phones is encouraging. But I’m a bit skeptical. Apple, for one, seems to count on getting people to toss aside their perfectly good hardware every year or so. Can they afford to change? I suppose that if they could continue to sell us new phones every couple of years, but collect our “old” phones and re-use the materials, it would be of some help.
