New practice: when I come across a word I don’t know, look it up in my real dictionary, the paper American Heritage one. While there, I look at at least one other entry on the same page. I’ve been reading Anthony Burgess’ Enderby novels, and have been having to look up words more often than I’m used to. Clavigerous! Chrysostomatic! Aleatorical!
