A short history of "woke"?

Does anyone use “woke” in a positive way now? I only hear it used it sarcastically/ironically to mean something like “representing a kind of ideologically narrow, illiberal leftism.” But not long ago wasn’t there a brief time when it was used positively, (maybe in pre-George-Floyd Black Lives Matter literature and other places?) to mean “Awakened to systematic social injustice, as we understand it”? Was it so quickly recruited as a term of condemnation that its originators completely stopped using it?

I’m not very sympathetic to the ideology represented (positively or negatively) by “woke”, but I can only shake my head when I follow the history of these catch-phrases, and their recruitment for purposes their originators never intended. “Fake news” is of course another example.
