It’s May, and snow is in the forecast for tonight here in upstate NY. I read today that apple growers are concerned that they may lose this year’s crop (spring’s flowers become fall’s apples). I was reminded of the prayer that we say in every Divine Liturgy:
Deacon: For seasonable weather, for abundance of the fruits of the earth, and for peaceful times, let us pray to the Lord.
Response: Lord, have mercy.
When you hear this prayer at least once a week, it’s easy to skim over it mentally. Right now, each element feels alive and urgent. Lord, have mercy.
