More on the rapid decline of Christian practice in the US, from a Pew Report, In U.S., Decline of Christianity Continues at Rapid Pace. The report is very rich, and you’d do well to read the whole thing if you care about this topic. A few notes:
- Congratulations to whoever made the graph for zero-anchoring it.
- In my opinion, church attendance is almost the only quantifiable measure of Christian practice, inadequate as it may be. Certainly a more meaningful measure than “identifies as Christian” in a survey.
- Also in my opinion, “once a month or more” is a pretty low bar.
- These are self-reports on a survey, so they’re almost certainly over-estimates of actual participation.
Christianity in this country is likely to get much smaller and much less nominal in the coming decades.
