I love the sound and feel of playing a recorder, but I find the standard soprano sort of shrill. So I took a plunge and got a tenor recorder, which plays an octave lower and has a beautiful, somewhat spooky sound.
It’s really big! See photo of soprano and tenor next to each other. In fact the tenor is twice as long, because physics. My first attempts to make some notes were very discouraging.
Fortunately I found some uplifting YouTube videos that let me know that working on The Stretch is just part of the normal process, and that “All is lost because I don’t have really long fingers” is an unnecessary thought.
So (a) YouTube can actually be a good thing when it’s not steering you toward Lizard People conspiracy videos, and (b) I rejoice in an interesting new challenge.
