Cosmic, man.

I’ve been reading a new translation of the sayings of the Desert Fathers, Give Me a Word. In it people lacking in eremiticity are often referred to as “worldlings.” In a glossary at the back of the book I found that this translates the Greek κοσμικός (kosmikos); and that in modern Greek it still means “worldly, concerned with material things.”
Back in the hippie-ish 60s and 70’s, calling something “Cosmic” was high praise. Little did we know.
