This story, “Why a Certain Priest Refused to Read a Newspaper”, spoke strongly to some of my current concerns.

When Father Gabriel wasn’t in church, he was at the local coffee shop where the people were. He was always trying to be beneficial to people, to calm their souls, to pacify them, to quench their spirits inflamed with political passions.

In 1939, Fr. Gabriel even needed someone to explain to him who Hitler was. Is this a good thing? Many would say “certainly not,” but even here I’m not so sure…
